The Rock Island Arsenal Museum is the Army’s second oldest museum.  It first opened to the public on July 4, 1905.  The primary mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Rock Island Arsenal and Arsenal Island.  By focusing on “People, Processes, and Products,” the exhibits tell the story of the people involved in Arsenal Island’s history, the manufacturing processes used at Rock Island Arsenal, and the military equipment that was produced at Rock Island Arsenal. All visitors must enter through the Moline (Illinois) gate. Visitors who do not have an approved Department of Defense identification card and are 18 years old or older must obtain a visitor pass at the Visitor Control Center. Visitor Control Center hours are Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. If the Visitor Control Center is closed, visitor passes are issued at the Moline gate. To obtain a visitor pass, visitors will need a driver's license, state-issued identification card, or passport. Residents of Minnesota, Missouri, and Washington states will need one form of additional documentation to use with their driver's license or state-issued identification card. Additional acceptable documentation includes social security card or vehicle registration with name and address. Foreign Nationals are not allowed access, unless visiting Rock Island Arsenal for Official Business. All visitors must complete a criminal records background check processed through the National Crime Information Center - Interstate Identification Index (NCIC-III). All motorcycles operated on Rock Island Arsenal will be "Street Legal" with current state registration and license plate with sticker. The motorcycle operator must be in possession of his/her state driver's license and current insurance card for motorcycle. The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory while operating a motorcycle or riding as a passenger on or off Rock Island Arsenal. *    A helmet certified to meet DOT standards, properly fastened under the chin. *    Full-fingered gloves or mittens designed for use on a motorcycle, long trousers and a brightly-colored long-sleeved shirt or jacket. *    Leather boots or over-the-ankle leather hard-sole shoes and proper eye protection. Proper eye protection is defined as impact- or shatter-resistant glasses/goggles or a full-face shield properly attached to the helmet.
