Posted on: Thursday, October 6th, 2016 August 2016 Meeting Note – Jim Dominique presentation Jim Dominique spoke to group at our August, 2016 HoAME monthly meeting. Jim sparked the group’s interest relating his start and history in motorcycle endurance racing. Jim started racing in 1985 (and joined HoAME shortly thereafter in 1986) and spoke of his long climb until eventually reaching podium positions. The presentation and discussion of motorcycle endurance racing was fascinating to many of the HoAME members who are less familiar with this type of motorcycle racing.

Jim briefly explained how these races which last four to six hours or more are run. Jim has raced in both the WERA and AHRMA motorcyle series. In addition, Jim brought two race bikes he has race prepared for “show and tell”. Who knew that a method to switch from standard shifting to “GP” shifting could be done so that it is actually possible to switch for different rider preferences quickly in the same race? Jim’s SV650 has this shift setup and Jim demonstrated it and other bike facets for interested members after his presentation. Upcoming Ride: Kansas City Escape (July 25) Contributed by: Troy Harrison The ride I’m leading is a day ride (not overnight), and will be slightly modified version of the “Kansas City Escape” route from RoadRunner magazine. It’s approximately 200 miles. April (my wife) and I have done this ride before and it’s a lot of fun. It’s mostly 2-lane country roads with lots of turns and hills, and good scenery to keep it interesting, and not much traffic. All roads are paved; some do have potholes and so forth but are generally good. The meet-up spot will be QuikTrip at K-7 just south of Cricket Wireless Amphitheater (formerly Sandstone). This will allow everyone to have full tanks and empty bladders before we go. Figure on meeting there are approximately 8:30 am, riders meeting at 8:45, and kickstands up at 9. I’ll have route maps and directions for everyone. We’ll ride the loop, with stops, and finish up at Kobi’s in Bonner Springs. Let me know if you plan to ride with us!

We will spend two nights in a hotel in the Springfield, IL, area, and return the afternoon of Monday, May 25. Let us know if you would like to ride with us! We had four HoAME members and one friend of club participate. While we got a wet start, the weather cleared up just south of KC. We arrived without incident. On Sunday, some of the group headed back to KC early, while others headed over to Bull Shoals Lake. We took the Peel Ferry Boat across the lake and then also headed back to KC. Gary enjoyed riding his red Honda 350 four, Honda Pacific Coast & black BMW powered Ural with his beloved wife Wanda in the sidecar . He and Wanda were also very active in the KC scooter scene, riding their Vespa scooter to local events as well as to Rallies across the country. Gary was a wonderful individual, a great friend to our club, and will be missed by many in the KC motorcycle community.
