Kit Carson County Clerk and Recorder The Kit Carson County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has just received confirmation that the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will install software for the state-wide driver licenses. The Kit Carson County Clerk and Recorder staff has been attending training to prepare for the new driver license program. All state and county Colorado driver license offices will close at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017, for a technology upgrade.
This closure does not affect county title and registration, recording, marriage license, or any other business in the Kit Carson County Clerk and Recorder office. Offices will remain closed on Monday, February 20, in observance of Presidents’ Day and will reopen at their regularly-scheduled times on Tuesday, February 21. Kit Carson County Clerk and Recorder’s Office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For driver license testing, the tests must be started by 3:30 p.m. Due to the technology upgrade, driver-based online services, including driver license and identification card renewal, address change and emergency contact information will not be available from February 17-20. House Bill 98-1213, which became effective July 1, 1999, requires that prior to registration or renewal, owners of tax Class C vehicles (passenger, motorhome and motorcycle), must provide proof of insurance. Effective May 12, 2000, owners of Class B vehicles (including light trucks and SUV's) must show proof of insurance before registering vehicles. Return the renewal card with payment in an envelope so that it will reach the County Clerk's Office before the last day of the grace period (one month after the expiration month).
