While it is not known if those bikes have arrived on Merseyside both victims said their local motocross community was aware that vehicles stolen from the area often ended up on the streets of Liverpool. A pattern of criminality has emerged where two men have enticed bike sellers to West Lancs before stealing the vehicles. On each occasion one thief asked for a test ride before riding off on the bike, while a second man has fled the scene in a Vauxhall Astra. Descriptions of the men involved differ, but every alleged offender is described as having a “Liverpool accent”.
- On May 25 a man from Plymouth met with two men on West Park Drive, Skelmersdale, after arranging to sell an orange KTM bike. One of the men, described as white, of medium build, with short curly ginger hair, asked for a test drive but never returned. The second thief, described as white and of slim build, with short light brown hair, drove off in an Astra. - Days later, on June 1, a blue and white Yamaha bike was stolen after its owner arranged to meet two men on Pinfold Road in Ormskirk. A man from Manchester had arranged to sell a white Yamaha and met two men, one of whom asked for a test drive. The victim agreed, as long as he was left with the man’s car keys.
The first then rode off on the bike before the second man elbowed the owner to the floor to take the car keys back. The second man then drove off in a white Vauxhall Astra. Both offenders are described as white, of medium build, aged in their mid-20s with Liverpool accents.
