Caring for your helmet After you've custom painted your helmet you will want to take good care of it to insure that the finish looks great for years to come. On my end, I have taken great care to clean and prep it prior to painting it. After I apply the paint, graphics and airbrushing I clean it thoroughly with grease and wax remover. This step is followed by at least four coats of top quality urethane clear. Paint jobs with taped out graphics receive more coats to fully cover the taped edges. The top coat is buffed and polished for a showroom finish you can be proud of. Since your helmet was painted with automotive grade paint, I recommend you clean your helmet with products made for cleaning cars. For day to day cleaning and polishing you can use hand glaze, available at your local auto paint supplier. Use one non-abrasive towel to rub the glaze into the surface of the helmet, allowing it to flash. Then procede to wipe off the film residue with a second towel.
