Purcell is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash which occurred at 8:10 am on Interstate 81 northbound at the 138 mile marker in Roanoke County. A 2008 Honda VT750 was traveling north on Interstate 81 in the right hand lane when the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the guardrail. There were no other vehicles involved. The driver of the Honda motorcycle was Hazel Mae Underwood, 71, of Salem, VA. Ms. Underwood was wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. A person died in an accident involving a motorcycle on Interstate 81 North on Monday morning. The accident happened on I-81 North at mile marker 138, which is near Exit 137. According to state police, four separate accidents happened in the area on I-81 South. There are backups of around three miles in both directions.

Winston-Salem police said Treavor Lundy, 47, died when his motorcycle traveled off the road on Shattalon Drive near Rolling Knoll Lane.The crash happened about 6 p.m.Investigators said the motorcycle left the roadway and collided with brush and several trees.Lundy was pronounced dead at the scene.The traffic enforcement unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.Authorities said Lundy’s death is the seventh fatality in 2016 so far, compared to 10 fatalities at this time last year.
