The company was founded in December of 1936 by Ben Campanale and was first located at 897 West 2nd Street in Pomona. The store at that time was Campy's Motorcycle Shop. In May of 1948, Campy's was purchased by Harley L. Rathbun who moved the store to 1241 West Holt Boulevard. Still in the Pomona area Mr. Rathbun changed the name to Rathbun Motorcycle Company. Mr. Rathbun was the store's owner and operator for the next 17 years. In June of 1965, Arthur Gunn purchased the store and changed the name to Harley-Davidson in Pomona. Mr. Gunn owned the shop for less than a year and sold it to Glenn Sherman Ames in February of 1966. Mr. Ames incorporated it under the name of Harley-Davidson of Pomona, Inc. and changed the name slightly to Harley-Davidson of Pomona. In November of 1981, Robert Owen (Sam) Kleinow purchased the dealership. Mr. Kleinow moved the dealership to 1125 West Holt Boulevard in Ontario and owned and operated Pomona Valley Harley-Davidson as a sole proprietorship until his death in 1993.
