This allows more room for the snap at the end of the strap. I use quick release on all my helmets. When I found these online I ordered extras so I can have the best on them all. The best doesn't cost any more than the others and is much easier to use. Great product, the only one I'll use. Quick Release I cannot seem to get used to it, maybe it is because I have used the double d ring fastener for 45 or so years. First, absolutely safe - I can't think of how (when properly fixed) it could be defeated. I would say, if you have very weak fingers, it might be a problem. Once it's firmly clicked-in, it's IN. Second, it is so easy to get your helmet on and off - even with gloves. Now, there's no excuse - besides messing up your hair. But if you want your hair parted by asphalt, it's best to use the helmet, right. Lastly, there's no cutting of straps or damaging any material, it's an inexpensive, simple, and easy way to upgrade your helmet. The current design has a slider where the long strap passes through for adjustment, which is a nice improvement. I make it a habit to secure the buckle with my gloves off, so I can insure it is properly secured. Is it possible to get only one side of the hooks to catch? Yes, but that's why you check it with your bare hand. You cannot idiot proof the world, but you can take the time to check to make sure the buckle is secure.
