When the sun comes out, there are few places that beat the British countryside and few things that beat a ride out on your motorbike. But sometimes the sun can be pretty annoying when you’re out on your bike, especially if there’s moisture on the road or the sun is low in the sky.At this point it’s common sense to use a tinted visor rather than squint into the sun or ride blind and that’s why tinted visors are commonplace on UK roads, while lots of new helmets have drop-down tinted visors built-in too. While your vision might improve, what’s not so clear is the laws that surround the use of tinted visors on UK roads and whether or not they’re actually legal. The laws surrounding motorcycle visors in the UK are cloudy at best because there are no hard and fast rules in place. The legal rule for just how tinted your visor can be says it must allow a light transmission of 70 per cent.As a general rule, motorcycle riders can wear a tinted visor in daylight however according to UK ‘Fitness to drive’ rules, you should not use tinted visors at night or in poor visibility.

So, they’re the rules, but trying to clarify what constitutes poor visibility is pretty difficult and putting a number on just how much light your visor lets through is difficult as well. When you couple that with multiple police forces across the country who all take slightly different approaches to tinted visors, it makes the whole thing quite complicated for riders in the UK.

in fact there are only two helmet related points that your insurer should be interested in:If your helmet and visor are either BS or ECE approved then your insurance should not be invalidated even if it is tinted. And while we’ve got you, it’s always worthwhile pricing up Helmet and Leathers cover on top of standard motorcycle insurance just in case because as you know, helmets aren’t cheap.

The same applies to sunglasses and goggles for anyone fond of an open face lid.You can be pulled over by the police for wearing a tinted visor if they believe it does not allow enough natural light through. If the police deem light and visibility to be poor you can also get pulled over and given three penalty points but there have been very few occasions where the police have stopped motorcyclists for wearing a tinted visor in the UK.
slingshot 3 wheel motorcycle priceLots of UK riders do not want to run the risk of being stopped by the police full stop, especially for something like a tinted visor, which we understand at The Bike Insurer. However the rule that is most important here says that tinted visors are legal during daylight hours. If you are going to be out when daylight starts to fade, you should also carry a clear visor with you.And if you want to be really sure, you should contact your local police force and see what their stance is on tinted visors because each forceAs far as your insurer is concerned, you will not invalidate your policy if your visor and helmet is BS or ECE approved.

But if you want clarification, you should contact your insurer directly to see where they stand on tinted visors and helmet policy. / Shop By Product / Accessories & Shields FREE SHIPPING ON ORDERS OVER $99 Login or Register to write the first review. : Water works best. It's very important to use the correct cleaners when cleaning your shields, otherwise you run the risk of damaging the shield's coating. Avoid using any glass cleaner containing ammonia, as this can harm the anti-scratch coating on the outside of the shield, and the anti-fog coating on the inside of the shield. Scorpion AT-950 Neocon - Helmet Nirvana? As another long-time Variant user I was intrigued when the 950 launched and since I broke my Variant it was time for replacement anyways. Ordered from one of the major suppliers and it arrived a few days later in the typical "Exo" themed box we've come to recognize.

First impressions were of the construction which although budget-oriented were of a good fit and finish with smoothly opening and operating slides and chin bar . First series of rides saw me using it in highly humid and damp conditions where it performed as well as the Variant it was replacing, with the fogging that it did exhibit quickly dispersed by opening of the face shield or chin bar as appropriate. The inner drop down shield is VERY dark so hopefully they will address this with another color but the action is very smooth and doesn't interfere with the wearing of glasses. Next rides saw me taking it into the High Desert a place where my former DS lid is regarded as one of the best. Unfortunately much after 80 degrees Fahrenheit you will be scrambling to get enough air as the vents might be adequate to prevent most fogging, but struggle in dry dusty conditions. Not to worry too much though as since it's modular you can just flip up the chin bar and deploy the face shield for relief.

Additionally you CAN remove the outer shield and use goggles if you want, a feature lacking in any other helmet at this price level as far as I know. All in all, a great feature packed helmet at a price that won't make you take out a second mortgage. With a couple more vents and premium materials it would be my year-round go to helmet, but as it is it will be three-season only. great features Review by I only have a couple rides so far , seems like a great helmet no fog shield works great. drop down visor does fog. I have a bilt evolution helmet and the at 950 is much more comfortable and quiet visor and drop down shield both seem optically great.i was worried about the visor but it seems sturdy it vibrates a little at 70mph but that's probably just the position of my windscreen. seems well built I'm happy with it Aggressive Style and Versatility Review by This is the most versatile helmet on the market and great looking one too. I've logged over 300 miles in it and is breaking in very well.

This is my first modular helmet after using a full face for a number of years and has been great for hot weather riding. Just buy it already Review by I've only had one other helment (Icon Variant) so keep that in mind. This helmet flows more air, is quieter, cheaper and was more usable for my kind of ADV touring. Just got it on Friday and promptly put 600 miles on it this last weekend, about half dirt half tarmac. Obviously very well thought out features. If I had to pick a negative, it would be the drop down sun visor. It doesn't extend down far enough, so you get a visible 'line' in your line of sight. The sun visor blocks enough sun that I only need the drop down shield when I'm facing into direct sunlight. If it's a good fit for your head, you will love this helmet. Awesome all in one helmet Review by This helmet looks rad with or without the visor. The flip-up chin bar is super buttery and the drop down sun visor is a great added feature to have even though I plan to wear a dark tinted face shield once they are available.
