The Harley-Davidson® Riding Academy New Rider Course is designed to get you comfortable on a bike and give you the skills you need to ride with confidence. Offered at select H-D® dealers, the New Rider Course provides you with expert guidance from H-D certified coaches. In the classroom, you'll get to know the motorcycle you'll be riding and learn the basics of rider safety skills. On the practice range, you'll learn braking and turning, along with maneuvers like controlling skids and surmounting obstacles. When you're finished you'll get a completion card. Depending on your individual state this card may exempt you from having to take the riding portion of your motorcycle license test and may also score you a discount on motorcycle insurance. Ask your H-D® dealer and insurance provider for details. The H-D® dealer where you sign up for the course will determine the exact cost. You'll need a valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit, and have the ability to ride a bicycle.

You'll need to bring the following: Jeans, chaps, or leather pants A heavy, long-sleeve shirt or jacket A government approved motorcycle helmet (in the U.S., a motorcycle helmet that meets D.O.T. standards) For the riding portion, the H-D® dealer will provide you with a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle suited for the course. As much as motorcycle riders try to avoid them, and may be the safest riders in the world, being in the wrong place at the wrong time can result in a potentially serious accident. Motorcycle accident injuries can be severe, life altering, and fatal. Motorcycle accidents are typically far more severe than other types of vehicle accidents, and a Mississippi or Jackson motorcycle accident can affect you for the rest of your life.As much as motorcycle riders try not to think about it, and accept that riding a motorcycle can be dangerous, most riders don't realize exactly how dangerous a bike can be.
motorcycle rim repair indianaMotorcycle accidents are on the rise. In 2006, the most recent year for which there is complete data on motorcycle accidents, there were 4,810 motorcycle fatalities, and 88,000 injuries. Motorcycle accidents account for 11 percent of all traffic fatalities, and a biker is 37 more times likely to experience a fatal accident than a car or other vehicle driver.51% of motorcycle fatalities are the result of colliding with another vehicle.

79% of those collisions are head-on accidents, and only 5% of fatal accidents happen from the rear. This paints a worrisome picture for motorcycle riders, and even careful motorcycle riders can only do so much to help prevent motorcycle accidents, injuries and fatalities.Jackson, Madison and Ridgeland motorcycle accidents are severe accidents. Because motorcycle riders are exposed, without the protection of a metal cage surrounding them that vehicle drivers enjoy, motorcycle accident injuries are typically far more serious than corresponding car accidents, or other vehicle accidents. Oftentimes, a motorcyclist will be thrown from the cycle, or crushed or pinned between the motorcycle and a car.A car driver who has an accident at 20 miles per hour is probably uninjured; there may be a bruise from the seat belt, or a minor case of whiplash from being thrown forward against the restraints. A motorcycle rider who has an accident at 20 miles per hour, on the other hand, can have broken bones, internal injuries, spinal cord injuries, second or third degree burns, lacerations, amputation of a leg or arm, and serious injuries, even at that speed - depending on the riding gear worn and how the collision occurs.

Speed has less bearing on a motorcycle accident than the circumstances of how the accident occurs.Motorcycle riders have rights. Many car drivers try to make a motorcycle accident seem like the motorcycle rider's fault, even when it was the driver's negligence that caused the accident. One of the most common excuses quoted by drivers in a motorcycle accident is: "I didn't see the motorcycle!"For many reasons, motorcycles are less visible on the road than other cars. Motorcycles take up less space and have a smaller profile, and drivers who are looking for larger vehicles may not visually register that a motorcycle occupies that space. Because motorcycles have a smaller profile, drivers often have trouble judging a motorcycle's traveling speed, and think they have more room before the motorcyclist arrives. In some cases, drivers don't see motorcycles because they're not aggressively checking for traffic. In any of these cases, if a motorcycle accident occurs because a driver 'doesn't see' the motorcycle rider, it's probably the driver's negligence that causes the accident.

In these cases, the driver is liable for the accident, and the driver's insurance should pay the medical bills, the cost to repair the bike, and other costs associated with the crash.Unfortunately, in many cases, the other vehicle driver denies liability for a motorcycle accident. Drivers may use a variety of excuses to deny liability for a motorcycle accident, either because they can't face that they caused the accident, they genuinely believe they didn't cause the accident, or because they don't want to accept responsibility for the accident because they believe their insurance premium will go up. In any of these cases, you'll be fighting an uphill battle against the insurance company and the driver, even if you're in the right and the driver is at fault.Having an experienced Mississippi motorcycle accident attorney on your side can really help when the other driver is denying liability. Kobs & Philley, PLLC know how to successfully litigate motorcycle accidents, and show liability, even if the other driver is denying it.

Our experienced lawyers can hire experts, reconstruct the accident and take all the necessary steps to prove liability and resolve your case.A Ridgeland or Jackson motorcycle accident can add up quickly. Even if the accident is relatively minor, the damage to your bike and your gear can be extensive. If it's a major accident, your medical bills and damages can add up quickly. Consider this example of an accident that occurred at around 30 MPH on a residential road in an average neighborhood: Injuries and Medical CostsTotal Cost (including emergency room visit, ambulance and ongoing medical care): $37,000, Damage to the Bike and GearTotal Damage to Bike and Gear: $30,160.This accident alone, at 30MPH on a residential side street, cost over $67,000 in medical bills and damages to the bike and gear. This isn't counting lost wages for time off during recovery and subsequent skin graft surgeries. And this was the cost for a low-speed crash on a residential side street, a few miles from home.

Motorcycle accidents are serious incidents. They result in significant injuries, potentially high medical costs, and substantial damage to the bike and gear; all of which adds up financially and emotionally. Recovery after a motorcycle accident can take weeks or months, or in the event of a spinal cord injury, recovery may be impossible.Have you or a loved one been involved in a motorcycle accident in Ridgeland, Jackson, Madison, Canton or in the State of Mississippi?
