Officers were called shortly after 11 a.m. to investigate suspicious activity in the 1300 block of East Navilla Drive, where a resident reported that an unknown male knocked on a neighbor’s door and then walked toward the home’s back yard, Covina police Sgt. Gregg Peterson said.

The officers saw the suspect jumping over the back fence of the home into an adjoining yard and quickly corralled the youth, Peterson said. “While checking the residence where the suspect was initially seen going into the backyard, officers located a broken window; however, it is unknown if he had made entrance into the residence prior to the officers arriving,” the sergeant said. The boy was arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken to Covina police headquarters for booking, during which he provided false information regarding his identity, Peterson said. Investigators were nonetheless able to figure out his real name during fingerprinting and learned that he had a no-bail arrest warrant from San Bernardino County, Peterson said. The youth, who also faces possible charges of providing false information to a police officer, was transported to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey pending his scheduled arraignment on Monday in juvenile court in Pomona, Peterson said.

A car the boy was seen exiting was impounded and a search of the vehicle turned up jewelry, electronics and other items believed to have been stolen from an unknown location, Peterson said. An image of the items appears to show family heirlooms, such as lockets containing old photographs.
