1,106,302 kms / 687,424 miles of motorcycle ridesSearch (Log In) | Co-sponsored by the NC Motorcycle Safety Education Program, this course teaches the skills needed to operate a motorcycle safely in traffic. The class is designed for new riders and for re‑entry riders, however, experienced riders have also found it to be very beneficial. Students learn the location and operation of the controls of the motorcycle and practice riding to demonstrate that they have the strength, balance and coordination to perform straight-line riding, shifting, turning, and stopping exercises. Students will learn street riding strategies needed for riding on the highway in traffic, as well as skills to avoid accidents – including emergency braking, swerving and proper cornering techniques. With successful completion of the BRC, you will earn a skills waiver card for the NC DMV. This means that the DMV will not require you to take their motorcycle riding test. However, you will still be required to visit your local DMV office, present your skills waiver card, and take the DMV written exam before being issued a motorcycle endorsement.

The BRC has an accelerated curriculum; each exercise teaches a new skill and builds on one or more previously taught skills. If you miss any portion of a range exercise, you will not be permitted to continue on the range, which will result in failure of the skills portion of the BRC and will not result in issuance of a waiver card. The BRC is conducted at a pace that results in successful completion for most novice riders. However, if you experience significant difficulty or become a safety risk to yourself or others, you will not be permitted to continue to ride. To view videos of the BRC and other motorcycling videos, visit the Motorcycle Safety Foundation website. The registration fee for BRC Classes is $199. Payment is due at the time of registration. To register, please call Rowan-Cabarrus Community College at 704-216-7222 or register online through WebAdvisor (click “Students”, then “Register and pay for Continuing Education Classes). Important note: Motorcycle courses are run through the Self-Supporting divisions of the Continuing Education Programs.

This means that your tuition fee will not be refunded if you fail to show up for class, or you fail to complete the course. Due to the high demand of these classes, there will be no refunds or transfers made within 10 days of the class start date. Individuals interested in attending a BRC must be at least 16 years of age. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. Possession of a driver’s license or learner’s permit is not required to take the course, however, you must be able to ride a bicycle and possess some degree of strength, as the course is physically demanding. You should be able to support a 300-pound motorcycle, while straddling it, and have the ability to push the motorcycle for distances up to 120 feet. Hot and cold weather conditions can add to the strenuous conditions you’ll encounter while taking the course. We provide the motorcycles, but students are expected to bring the following riding gear (mandatory to ride on range):
