Sixth-former Kaley Leighton, 17, said she was astounded when a staff member asked if she was English and then ordered her out as she tried to buy a drink. The row follows our story yesterday of an Asian postmaster who won't serve immigrants unless they speak English. In the latest case, Kaley said: "The man came over and asked if I was English. I said I was and he said 'Get out of my shop' twice. "He said it really aggressively. I was on my own and he was a big man so I just left. "I felt angry, upset and embarrassed and couldn't believe what had happened." Local newspaper reporter Emma Franklin claimed the same happened to her. She said: "I was told by a female worker in the shop that they do not serve English people. "I said I was from a newspaper and asked why they had the policy. "She then became visibly uncomfortable and said they DID serve English people but she had not understood what I had been saying. "I pointed out she had just said 'No, we don't serve English people' and she told me to come back in an hour and speak to her friend.
When I returned I was told the friend was late." Kaley's mum Julie Eldin, 40, said: "I was fuming. I work in a shopmyself and can you imagine what would happen if the boot was on the other foot and I refused to serve someone because they weren't English?" The family has complained to the council where a spokesman said: "The police community cohesion officer and the council's senior policy officer are looking into this to help resolve any issues." Michail Bak, proprietor of Polski Sklep in Goole, East Yorks, said: "I have lots of English people coming in to buy drinks and snacks. The second time it was problems with the language. The lady in the shop couldn't understand what she was saying." Mr Bak, 23, added: "I would like to see the first girl and ask why she said those things. I serve Russians, Latvians, Brazilians and Portuguese. I haven't been able to eat a thing all day." The store has been open a month selling traditional foods to the seaport's East European community. Royal Mail is still investigating Sri Lankan Deva Kumarasiri who refuses to serve Asians who can't speak English at his Nottingham post office.
