This is our second season in LOORRS and our goal this year is always to be in the top five, whether it’s practice, qualifying or racing.  Being prepared for anything and everything is what short course racing is all about!  We’re glad to have the support of sponsors like Loctite® who help us push the limits and be competitive in the Pro2 class. Jeremy’s truck takes a lot of abuse in off-road racing, so our biggest maintenance challenge is just making sure everything stays tight on the truck. We rely on a pretty wide range of Loctite products, especially the blue and red threadlockers.  We rev the engine to 9,000 RPM, which produces a ton of vibration, so the Loctite threadlockers take care of any issues with loosening. In addition to the liquid threadlockers, we use the Loctite threadlocker sticks, which are good for overhead applications since they don’t drip.

The truck has skid plates under the whole chassis which will vibrate off if they’re not secured.  During our first time running the truck on a course last year, a couple of bolts came off the skid plate and the whole skid plate fell off.  After that, we started using the Loctite blue threadlocker stick on it, and I’m glad to say that hasn’t happened since! I also like to use Loctite 565 thread sealant on all the pipe fittings. I prefer it over a tape because it’s easier to work with and does a better job. We use it in the cooling system, the transmission lines, and oil lines. Some additional Loctite products that we use regularly in the garage are Loctite RTV silicone gaskets, Loctite anti-seize lubricant on the transmission, and Loctite super penetrating oil and Loctite contact cleaner for assembly and disassembly. The chassis was built in 2012 and is considered a full size, 2-wheel drive truck. You might notice that we run a Nissan Titan body but have a GM drive train.

The engine comes from Vic Hill Racing Engines and is a 430 ci generation 2 Small Block Chevy (SB2) with 856 horsepower and 764 pounds-feet of torque that revs to 9,200 RPM when needed. We have two engines, one for backup at all races. The engine gets rebuilt after 250 laps or halfway through the season. Behind the engine we have a Turbo400 transmission followed by a gear reduction (under drive), then out to the rear axle for a ratio of 7.8:1 that changes depending on the track we’re racing at. We run a 17” Fuel Off Road wheel with 35” x 12.5” Maxxis tires that use an inner liner in case of a flat during a race. Our hard work and testing in the off-season paid off at our first race weekend when we had a podium finish at Lake Elsinore, CA on March 20-21.  Jeremy had a fifth place finish on Friday and a third place finish on Saturday, and sits third in points overall.  Our next race is April 24-25 in Chandler, AZ.   Category: Motorcycles & Extreme Sports Tags: Blue And Red, Jeremy McGrath, Loctite Threadlocker
