At least we have two good pistons, which will match the good cylinders we haveEsk Motorcycles added 7 new photos. There's been a few classic Jap's come and gone through the last month! Steve's Suzuki GS850 has now gone, having been ran for the first time in 17 years. Steve is now waiting eagerly for summer, so he can get out on the old GS again. First up for our photos, we have Martin's Honda VFR1000 Engine, which has been Soda Blasted at MB Blast Cleaning in Banff. This is now waiting for us to get some heat in the air (and some dry weather) so we can get it painted, and get the Valve S...tem Oil Seals changed. Nigel's Suzuki TS250 is coming together now as well. The Engine is now in the Frame, the Wheels and new Tyres are also fitted. Hopefully I'll remember to the a photo of this during the week, and it'll be in next weeks update. Lastly we have Kev, and his great assortment..... The 1971 Kawasaki F8, is almost ready, a couple of cables to fit that Barnie delivered, and sort out a rouge wire in the Headlight, and it'll be MOT time for that.

We got his Yamaha RD250D, up and running, only to find that the Crank was knocking its head off! So, the Crank is away on it's holidays to Grampian Motors in Liverpool to be overhauled, then it'll be back together without ant nasty noises See allEsk Motorcycles added 3 new photos.Bryce brought in a pair of minging Harley-Davidson Wheels, that he wanted rebuilt with Stainless Spokes, and Powder Coated Hubs & Rims.... Custonised Coatings dealt with making the Hubs & Rims red, and Callum spent part of Wednesday afternoon lacing them up. The end result looks far better than I thought it would, and Bryce is a happy bunny as well. These went far better than the set of Yamaha DT175MX wheels that we laced up on the same day.... The old rims have so many flats and twists, there was no way we could get them correct! But at least the old rusty spokes are gone, and they look much betterEsk Motorcycles added 12 new photos. In Brit Bike world, it's been a story of two Triton's and a Triumph 5T..... Rob's Triton is coming together nicely, and after we got it all polished up, he decided to get the dented Tank repaired, which Kev at Station Autobodies in Ellon sorted out, and a new Primary Belt conversion, and a set of overhauled Clocks fitted.

It's been the usual thing with this Bike, in that everything we go into, we're finding parts are either damaged, or worn out..... I don't know what has happ...ened to the Carbs, but everything was seized, and the contents of the Float Bowls looked like dried out salt. But we'll get there :) Dennis's Triton has now been Powder Coated, and Dennis is taking care of the assembly, now that all the awkward jobs have been done for him. Last up there's Harry's Triumph 5T bottom end, which is being rebuilt for him. The Crank & Rods are away on there holidays, to have the Crank Ground, and the Rods re-metaled at JEL Bearings. Esk Motorcycles added 67 new photos to the album Rex's Harley-Davidson Softail. After a few bolloxing's, and being accused of being a person of exceptional slackness, I've decided that I would add a wee update on the highlights of what's been happening up here on the Croft.... Here we have Rex's 2006 Harley-Davidson 88" Softail, which has been getting a tidy up, and a Timken Bearing conversion and a Cam Gear Drive conversion.

All the Engine Cases have been Power Coated black from the peeling silver by Customised-Coatings in Newmacher. The photos in this album show the rebuilding process, and the upgrades that were done, starting with the Timken Bearing conversion, through the truing of the Crankshaft, through to the Cam Gear conversion, and final assembly.Esk MotorcyclesLast up for this week is Rex's Harley-Davidson Softail! I collected the Engine Cases from the Powder Coater yesterday, and they look fantastic, in they're new textured coating. This one is getting a Timken Bearing conversion on the drive side of the Crank, and hopefully I'll remember to take some photos or even a wee video, of this being done, along with the rest of the Engine rebuildEsk Motorcycles added 4 new photos.Over in Triumph corner, its a tale of two Triton's.... Rob's lovely black & alloy one has came in to be re-polished, after an accident with some caustic cleaner, that has streaked the alloy, and we have been getting on with the "black build" on Dennis's Bike.

Other work on the british bike front included fitting a new Crankpin assembly to a Matchless G80CS, and truing up Flywheels. The final photo here shows the Conrod Race being lapped to suit the new BearingEsk Motorcycles added 9 new photos. In Classic Jap Land, Kev came in and collected his Kawasaki KE175, and dropped off a lovely 1971 Kawasaki F8, which we will recommission for him, and get it sorted out for the road. Other than that, we also repaired a Yamaha RD350LC Frame, which needed a new section welded in, for the Centre Stand. Lastly for this section, we have Steve's Suzuki GS850, which was laid up seventeen years ago, when his younger daughter was born ( I think she should pay his bill, as it seems to b...e her fault....). This old Bike has been lucky in the respect of it had a wee friend, who lived in the Tail Peice/Mouse Nest, and whom unfortunately found the old GS quite tasty! As you will see from the Photos, anywhere it could have a perch, its had a chew.... The top end has been removed and painted, and the Carbs cleaned, ready for the rebuild kits, that arrived today!

Sorry, but I forgot to take a photo of the bike when it arrived, so you'll only see the completed bike now Esk Motorcycles added 5 new photos. Here we are, two weeks since the last update again! I don't know where the time goes........ I'll start off with Alistair's 1919 & 1920 Harley-Davidson Model F's. I thought that they were both Model J's, but after researching the Engine numbers, they are both Model F's...... Everything has now been taken apart, and unfortunately, most of what we are looking at is either worn out, or damaged! So many years of being ridden to destruction (certainly in the case of the 1919 machine), and a long term lay up in a shed, has all taken its toll. The Cylinders from the 1919 machine have now went on they're holidays to Dundee, so Derek at Engine Resource can have a look at them, and see if they can be fitted with a Liner. Hopefully there will be more to report on these Bikes next weekEsk Motorcycles added 4 new photos. This was what was found when we made a start to pulling the Gearbox apart for the 1919 Model J!

Once it was given a quick bath, it was taken apart, and the Clutch and gears were checked out. The Mainsheet, Counter Shaft, and the Sliding Gear are all either damaged, or worn out, as are the Clutch Plates, which will all have to be replaced. The rest of the Bike is currently soaking in an Oxitalic Acid bath, to remove all the surface rust, prior to heading off to Kev, at Station Autobodies in Ellon for paintingEsk Motorcycles added 12 new photos.Back to Alistair's Harley-Davidson Model J's, I thought that since the 1919 Engine was lying around, it would be the first one to be looked at..... This one has a badly twisted Con Rod, which it became evident had been caused by the rear Piston breaking up. We actually thought that the bottom end was seized, but it turned out to be jammed with chunks of Cast Iron Piston. The Sprocket Shaft & the Crankpin are both knackered, and will have to be replaced, along with the Rollers, as some of them I thought were parts of a broken Bearing Cage, but they were just worn out Rollers.

The final couple of photos are of the Vapour-Blasted Casings, and the start of the repairs to the Timing Case, removing broken Screws, using the TIG WelderEsk Motorcycles added 6 new photos. In Harley Corner, we have Rex's 88" Softail, and John's 80" Heritage.... The Softail is having the Engine Overhauled, and getting the Crank Trued, and a Timken Bearing conversion on the drive side Main Bearing, and a paint & decorate to make it look better. The Heritage is getting an Engine Overhaul, and some new Mudguards to make it look lighter, and a Wheel rebuild, with new Rims & Spokes. Lastly there was a Shovelhead Gearbox, that was Overhauled, with a Close Ratio Gear ConversionEsk Motorcycles added 4 new photos.Alistair contacted us last month, asking if we could restore a couple of Harley-Davidson Model J's for him, and the photos here, are how they all landed, when I took them out of the Trailer, and spread everything out a bit so we could get a look at what needed to be done........ There'll be more stories to follow, tonight, and as we get stuck into the workEsk Motorcycles added 6 new photos.
