NSW Police Force added 4 new photos.Police have launched Operation Silverstone to focus on the safety of motorcycle riders in the Hunter and Lake Macquarie regions. Operation Silverstone begins to...day (Tuesday 1 November 2016) and will continue through to 1 March 2017. The operation primarily focuses on the safety of motorcycle riders in the Central Hunter, Hunter Valley and Lake Macquarie Regions. So far this year in the Hunter Valley, Central Hunter and Lake Macquarie region, motorcycle riders have been involved in 245 major traffic crashes, resulting in 207 riders being injured, and five killed. These figures are despite officers issuing over 400 infringement notices to riders over the same period, for offences including; unlicensed riding, unregistered vehicle, speeding, and not wearing a helmet. During the operation, officers will use a variety of resources, including marked, unmarked and covert Highway Patrol vehicles, and aircraft surveillance (PolAir), to ensure the safety of motorcycle riders.

PolAir will be assisting officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command by patrolling roadways to monitor riding and driving behaviour. Information can be passed to ground based officers who can then take action.
