The man’s name was Caesar Boswell, and he was beloved by just about everyone who rode two wheels. I had the pleasure of speaking with his sister Judy, who has carried on Caesar’s legacy since his passing in 2013. She now mans Caesar’s Motorcycle Empire on 7922 South and State Street. It’s a role she never thought she’d play, herself being a former UN member living in Rome for 25 years.
While Judy pursued her career abroad in the 70s and 80s, her brother Caesar was busy building bikes, selling bikes and making friends all over the map. Caesar’s camel, Cairo, tried to steal the cigarette’s out of the tour-guide’s pocket. Betcha can’t guess what brand. Caesar Boswell was heavily involved with the Widowmaker Hillclimb Event, and had a presence in both Widowmaker Draper and it’s present-day counterpart in Ogden, UT. “He was a very popular guy. Every one knew him.” Judy told me, holding up a picture of Caesar next to actor Anthony Hopkins. They worked together on the set of the World’s Fastest Indian – a biographic drama partly filmed on Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats. “He was like a kid. So enthusiastic about everything.” Photos, newspaper clippings, and even poetry in Caesar’s tribute don his repair shop’s walls. A walk around the Empire grounds confirmed what almost seemed too cool to be true. An old-school rider named Tom showed me around.
Here in the backyard of Caesar’s legacy, Tom feels like he belongs. “He had the best memory of any man I’ve known.
