Hi Group - we have been looking at car rentals for an upcoming trip to Florida and are appalled at how expensive car rentals are with all the added taxes. We will be flying into Fort Launderdale and have seen from previous postings that it can be cheaper to rent away from the airport. We have found this to be the case and are considering taking a taxi from the airport to the Hertz location at 901 East Sunrise Blvd. Can someone give me input on how this neighborhood is and if they have had any experience doing the same.

One destination mentioned in this post It's a very new rental spot that I only first noticed a couple of weeks ago on one of my many trips across Sunrise- and it may not have even been open yet when I first noticed the sign on it. ( For locals I think it used to be a motorcycle or bicycle shop- it's just north of Searstown on the curve.). It's not the best neighborhood in town , but not the worst either and a very heavily travelled area- so I doubt there is a safety issue The Searstown there is an old rather run down one. It is so new though that you may have trouble finding many people with any experience renting there. Also, be sure to check the operating hours of that one- often those off Airport locations have shorter hours maybe not open as early in the am or as late in the PM - or not a much on weekends- good idea to check that out so as not to get stuck f your plane is late or you have an early flight out. I've already routed it from the airport and checked their hours - works for our schedule. It should not be a problem then to ask a taxi driver to take us there? I will call them in the morning and find out their routine, just to be safe.
