Once a year, roadworthiness is checked by means of an MOT test in the interests of road safety and the environment. Booking your motorbike in for an MOT test could not be easier. The most common reasons for failing a motorcycle MOT test are having a licence plate that is the wrong size, and not having a rear reflector. Please make sure you have both of these right and do a thorough check of your vehicle before booking your test. The comprehensive motorcycle MOT looks at some important parts of your motorbike to ensure that they meet the key legal minimum requirements at the time of testing. You should be aware that the MOT certificate is not a guarantee of the general mechanical condition of a vehicle.

so you could easily find yourself in trouble if you have failed to renew your MOT certificate. The penalty for not having an up to date MOT test certificate is usually a fine and points on your driving licence. An MOT test includes both the safety of your vehicle and the level of emissions coming from the exhaust. In accordance with VOSA requirements, your MOT test will include checks on the following items (click each item for more information): If your motorbike passes the MOT test a VT20 ‘pass’ certificate will be issued and your motorbike is considered officially safe to drive in the eyes of the law. In the interests of your safety any items that are not quite a failure, but worth keeping an eye on, are highlighted as ‘advisory’ items. If the motorbike does not meet the required standard and fails the MOT test; a VT30 document is issued and our MOT tester will explain to you the reasons why your motorbike has failed the test.
