Oneida County man killed after motorcycle hits back of truck, deputies say on September 21, 2016 at 9:57 PM, updated REMSEN, N.Y. -- A man was killed and a woman injured Wednesday when a motorcycle hit the back of a truck, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office said. Just after 4:30 p.m. Caroline Bordet, 20, an exchange student from France who is staying in Remsen, was driving a 2000 Freightliner F-170 truck south on Route 12 in Remsen. The sheriff's office said Peter Betz, 55, of Rome, was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south when he hit the back of Bordet's truck. Betz and his passenger, Tia Eddy, 27, of Rome, were thrown from the motorcycle. Deputies responded to the scene along with Remsen firefighters, Kuyahoora Ambulance, Prospect Ambulance and police from the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Betz died at the scene. The sheriff's office said Eddy was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment.

Bordet was treated and released at the scene for a complaint of minor pain, the sheriff's office said. Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash.
