I was thrilled to see this new option on the market, and at a great price. These jeans are packed with Kevlar and actually have pockets for knee armor, not a feature on many other riding jeans for women.
I have worn, walked, rode in and washed my new pair and here’s my review on the Bella Kevlar Jeans.First Impression:When I removed the jeans from the box, the first thing I noticed was the weight. They are much heavier than my average street/non-riding jeans, and this is a good thing; protection not only in a crash, but from the wind, sun, bugs and debris. I was also surprised by how soft they were, inside and out.The color is a mid to dark blue denim, and the style is very basic, no frill. In street jeans I wear a 2 or a 4. I am 5′-0″ tall so I tried the size 4 – short. (I just have to say, how awesome it is that the Sliders Bella Jeans come in different length options, short, regular and long. This is always a struggle for me, and other women on both sides of the height spectrum.) The length of the 4 – short was perfect, they are made slightly longer to accommodate a rider’s position on the motorcycle. The waist on me however, was a bit large, a 2 may be a better fit, or it may be due to the relaxed fit and the high waist.
There is a some stretch in the denim which is nice for getting a good fit and allowing for more movement while you are on your bike.Like I stated, the waist is quite high, this is to prevent that annoying (and unprotected) gap between your pants and your jacket. Of course, there are belt loops like typical jeans, but be sure to check your measurements at your true waist, not your hips.Here is a size chart from Competition Accessories for the Sliders Bella Kevlar Jeans for Women, at the time I this chart, the Jeans were still in early production and I was told the chart may be “tweaked” as they receive more and more feedback. Like I said these Bella Jeans are heavy, the denim is thick and I like it, I don’t feel as exposed as I do in my regular jeans. It also has Kevlar in all the right places. (Kevlar is a woven fabric that by weight is five times stronger than steel). The interior side of the Kevlar is very soft, even softer than the denim. The protective Kevlar covers my entire rear, and partway down the back of my leg.
There is also Kevlar on the front from just above my knee to mid-shin.The knees have pockets for the optional knee armor. The knee armor is CE approved and the shape is articulated to bend with your leg. The Sliders have a unique design for adjusting the height of the knee armor in three different positions, which is an excellent benefit. I only wish they came with instructions, it took me a few minutes to figure it out. I made a quick install video for you. I didn’t really think much about them, and that says a lot. No need for adjusting they fit just right. At times the knee armor seemed to press a bit hard on one leg, but I believe with a little adjustment before the next ride, that can be remedied. I walked around for about an hour and felt comfortable in these jeans, I didn’t feel like I was wearing riding gear.(Photo for demonstration only – always wear your helmet and gloves 🙂 ) I washed the Bella Jeans in warm water and threw them in the dryer with my regular load. hey wash the same as regular jeans, with no damage to the Kevlar, don’t forget to remove your knee armor first. The jeans did shrink slightly, but that’s what I wanted, if you don’t, then wash in cold and tumble dry with low heat or hang dry.PriceOne of the best features of the Bella Jeans is the price, I have searched and can not find comparable protection in this price range. The knee armor is extra, but only about $9.00, and well worth it. It is actually a good idea to have it optional, because hopefully Competition Accessories will come out with other colors and styles, like in their Men’s Sliders line up and we will be able to switch the armor between jeans.Summary:I am really pleased with the first release of Sliders Kevlar Bella Jeans for Women, you can’t beat the price and quality. I plan to wear mine for rides around town and local bike events. I don’t feel like I am “all geared up” and as conspicuous walking around as when I wear my other motorcycle pants.For those ladies who typically ride in regular jeans, now you can get the look and feel of basic jeans, but with the added benefits of Kevlar and CE armor.I
