Well known for its line of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and other small-engined vehicles, Suzuki also fields a full line of passenger vehicles ranging from small compacts to SUVs such as the XL7. Production of the XL7 was discontinued in 2009 due to low demand. Available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive forms, the XL7 offered the 3.6-liter V6 engine as its sole powerplant. The V6 engine produced 252 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 243 pound feet of torque.

Linked to this engine was a six-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the first generation XL7, the second generation does not come with a manual transmission. The standard towing capacity for the XL7 throughout all trim levels was 3500 pounds, with a maximum payload of 1100 pounds. The XL7 can trace its roots back to the Grand Vitara XL, a stretched version of the Suzuki Vitara compact SUV. The current design of the XL7 is derived from the Suzuki Concept-X concept car of the 2005 Detroit International Auto Show. The second generation XL7 used the unibody platform and several mechanical components from the Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Vue SUVs and was built in the same CAMI Automotive plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada as the General Motors SUVs. The XL7 came in Premium, Luxury and Limited trim. Anti-lock brakes, automatic load leveling, electronic brake assistance and traction control are standard throughout the XL7 lineup. Standard features included a power liftgate, roof rack, air conditioning with automatic climate control, rear air conditioning with second row controls, 50/50 split reclining fold-flat third-row seat with under-floor hidden storage and driver information center.

The top-of-the-line Limited featured front fog lamps, 17-inch chrome-plated aluminum alloy wheels, chrome door handles, remote engine starter and an optional rear vision camera. Safety features included dual front air bags and side-curtain air bags for all rows. Prices for the XL7 started at $25,745 in Premium trim, up to $28,280 for a fully loaded Limited with all-wheel drive. Fuel economy estimates for the XL7 in front-wheel drive form were 17 miles per gallon in city driving and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. The all-wheel drive version of the XL7 achieved 16 miles per gallon in city driving and 23 miles per gallon on the highway.
