The foundation is one of the largest private foundations in the United States and is devoted exclusively to supporting programs for people with intellectual disabilities. In January, Little League International announced a grant of $20,000 through their Little League Grow the Game grant program, which supports the enhancement/development of the Challenger program.
The Rochester Small Grants Committee of the Wilson Foundation for recently approving a grant of $10,000 to support construction of the Miracle Field. The Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life through initiating and supporting projects that measurably demonstrate a means of creating a sense of belonging within the family and the community. I-Square hosted a tap takeover on Saturday, November 19th. Miracle Field volunteers took over the tap, raising $2,183.85 Webster Aquatic Center hosted its 4th Annual Worldwide Aquathon on Saturday, November 12, 2016. Participants from around the world exercised in the water to benefit a charity. Locally, $1,000 was raised for Challenger Miracle Field. Rochester Laddermen Firefighter Motorcycle Club for their annual ride held in September 2016 and raising $3,000 for the Miracle Field. The Club is a firefighter based motorcycle club in Rochester, NY, dedicated to fundraising, and supporting events that benefit local charities.
Webster Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs for their generous donation from the second annual ever Webster Garlic Festival. Thousands of people attended the unique event, held in September at the Webster Recreation Center. A raffle for a Buffalo Bills helmet autographed by Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor raised another $1,500. Special thanks to Jim Nacca and Derek Donolli for securing the helmet and Tyrod’s autograph. The many generous donors whose gifts in memory of Ken Kampff total more than $11,640. Ken, the long-time district supervisor for Little League baseball in the Rochester region, helped bring Challenger baseball to Rochester in 1990. Ken passed away in August 2016. The Kiwanis Club of Penfield & Perinton for donating $700 in September 2016 The members of the Kiwanis Club of Penfield-Perinton are very proud of their more than 53 years of service to the principles of the Kiwanis organization and to deserving charitable causes. The most important legacy of the club is the ability to provide assistance to our fellow community members who are in need, especially children.
The Summers Foundation, Inc., and John “Dutch” Summers of Jasco/Graywood Companies and Sandra Parker, former president/CEO of the Rochester Business Alliance, for their gift of $25,000. Lions’ Camp Smile for their gift of $12,500 in August 2016. Camp Smile is a New York certified summer day camp for children who are blind or visually challenged. The project is sponsored and financially underwritten by the Webster Lions Club, NY, District 20-E1. The camp annually hosts an average of 50 children ages' 5-21, as is certified by the New York State Department of Health. The Claude G. and Geraldine A. Wright Family Fund for its generous gift of $5,000 in the fall of 2016. The Wright Family Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1997 to provide funding in support of neighborhood revitalization, jobs & career support, education, and social needs. Lions Club International Foundation for their grant of $75,000, which matches funds raised by the local Lions Clubs in District 20-E1 along with other fundraising efforts held by Challenger Miracle Field.
Lions clubs from Webster, Chili and Fairport have held ongoing fundraisers and special events to support this project, including the Webster Garlic Festival and a match from our own Camp Smile.” ESL Charitable Foundation for their grant of $15,000 to fund the field backstop and five picnic tables. This gift demonstrates a commitment to be a support to youth and adults with disabilities and a reinforcement that Rochester is a community of inclusion. Wegmans Food Markets for their generous gift of $50,000 toward the field’s construction. This gift reflects our shared commitment to build a healthier community. Ronald McDonald House Charities for supporting the Play with Possibilities Playground with a gift of $16,970 to fund the wheelchair-accessible tree house. Karpus Family Foundation Inc. for a grant of $35,000 in support of the field. Monroe County Deputy Sheriff’s Association for raising $1500 from the 2nd annual Winterfest softball tournament in February 2016.
Fifteen teams played in the cold and snow, with live music by Doghouse and Acoustic Brew, and refreshments courtesy of Knucklehead Brewery and Black Button Distilling. Empire Soccer Academy Girls' U10 Team for raising $3,416 during the amazing 100-mile soccer dribble fundraiser in 2015. Webster Thomas High School’s "Cheer for Charity" event for raising funds and bringing awareness to our mission. Rochester Laddermen Firefighter Motorcycle Club for climbing high and raising $500 for the Miracle Field. Webster Thomas High School cross country team members who took part in a 12-hour, one-mile relay to raise funds and awareness for our mission. Each runner passed the baton to a teammate, who then ran another mile, finishing the event running seven to ten miles each! Shout out to Coach Jim Brunswick for your support! The Webster Business Improvement District for donating $2,500 from the June 19, 2015 Webster Wine Walk. Nearly 300 Wine Walk participants visited village businesses, each of which featured a different wine or liquor from around the world. Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas High School Teachers who battled it out on the court to raise $4,000! Congrats to all the participants and to Schroder who won the title. Monroe County Deputy Sheriff’s Association for hosting their first ever winter softball tournament on March 1, 2015, raising $8,900. Twelve teams battled in the snow to claim the highly sought-after trophy and bragging rights. Many thanks to the Association, representing more than 400 deputies assigned to the jail and civil bureaus, for their enthusiasm and support.
