Tenney and Pence both own and enjoy riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and the two Republicans each have a son serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Tenney won a three-way race last week for New York's 22nd Congressional District seat and will succeed retiring Rep. Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld, in January. As part of her formal orientation program for new members of Congress, Tenney attended the House Republican Conference meeting Thursday. At the end of that meeting, Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, a retiring Upstate lawmaker and Tenney supporter, encouraged the congresswoman-elect to introduce herself to Pence. "Actually, Chris Gibson dragged me up there and pushed me into the fray," Tenney said of her meeting with Pence. "He saw my Marine Corps pin that I had on my lapel and I mentioned that my son is a 1st lieutenant Naval Academy grad. His son went to Purdue. I think he's a 2nd lieutenant. "And then I said, 'I noticed a picture circulating on Facebook of you with a Harley.' And he said, 'Yes, do you like to ride?' And I said, 'Yes, I have a Harley too.'" Tenney's first TV ad of her 22nd District campaign against Democrat Kim Myers and third-party candidate Martin Babinec featured video showing the single mother riding on her Harley.
"Washington won't stop this hard-charging single mother of a U.S. Marine," the announcer said in the ad. Tenney is among 53 incoming House freshman members (26 Republicans and 27 Democrats) in the 435-seat House of Representatives. During their first orientation week the new members learn about the day-to-day rules of Congress, how to set up an office and begin to advocate for committee assignments. greeves motorcycles for sale usaThe week included dinners with GOP leaders, including a welcome dinner where Tenney was invited to sit with House Speaker Paul Ryan at the head table.used bikes for sale in jalgaon Tenney has not yet sent her committee priorities to GOP leadership, but the former New York state Assembly member said she will seek committee posts that are both feasible and will help the eight-county 22nd District.motorcycle helmet with tinted shield
