Select to search all Patches 2 Dead After Motorcycle, Car Crash on Route 9 Two on a motorcycle died in a crash on Saturday. A Fourth of July evening crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Route 9 in Shrewsbury left two dead and one injured.Police, the Shrewsbury Fire Department and UMass EMC responded at 6:24 p.m. to reports of a crash at 882 Boston Turnpike (Route 9) in the area of Shrewsbury Commons.Two traveled on a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Route 9 and collided with the rear of a 2010 Toyota Corolla, which was traveling east on Route 9, said police. The motorcycle tumbled, then slid and exited the roadway. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the operator was transported to UMass Medical Center, where he did not survive.

The driver of the Corolla was uninjured. Darius R. Theriault, 27, from Framingham and Victoria M. Tucker, 22, from Woburn died in the crash. The Shrewsbury Police shut down Route 9 for several hours during its investigation. Libo Chen, 28, from Shrewsbury operated the Corolla. Accident Reconstructionists Sgt. To minimize the risk and maximize the fun of motorcycling, the Registry of Motor Vehicles sponsors the Massachusetts Rider Education Program (MREP). The mission of this program is to reduce the number of motorcycle related fatalities and injuries in the Commonwealth by increasing the statewide availability of approved motorcycle training courses for motorcycle riders and to increase awareness and education for both riders and drivers. Junior Operators (under the age of 18) are required to complete the MREP basic rider course (which includes a motorcycle skills test) to get a motorcycle license in addition to the requirements needed to obtain a Junior Operator Class D License. Since 1990, more than 158,000 students have taken a motorcycle safety course. There are currently 12 Motorcycle Safety Schools operating at 27 different sites located throughout Massachusetts. MREP currently offers 3 license waiver courses and 5 additional courses to improve riding skills.
