Most cruisers have a friendly V-twin engine that supplies lots of torque and that engine rumble that is so recognizable. There are really two-different types of scooter. The first are typically above 250cc, and are a bit larger in size. These are a comfortable way to tour around, as they have an easy step-through design and an automatic transmission. The second is the smaller scooter that is usually between 50-125cc. Open-face, and short helmets are also an option, and some riders prefer the more open feeling. Price range can vary a large amount, and usually a more expensive helmet will provide better venting, better fit/finish, and overall a better quality of helmet. A proper helmet fitment is important. Riding jackets are usually made of a very durable nylon material and in some cases leather. Some riding jackets can be waterproof, or made with mesh panels for ventilation. Some may have a short & snug fit while other may be longer & more insulated. There's a style of riding jacket for just about anything you'd want it for. Pants are also available in leather or nylon, as well as a nylon or kevlar reinforced denim for lower body protection. Motorcycle gloves are incredibly important as our hands are one of our most needed tools for day-to-day activities. Gloves are typically made of leather, and are available in many styles, sizes and colours. Many riders will find themselves with several pairs of gloves, as it's nice to have a well vented set for hot days, as well as an insulated set for those cold spring & fall rides. Fit is very important as you'll need to operate the controls of your machine. Riding boots provide protection for ankles, heels and toes, and offer a good grip on the pavement for when you need to put your foot down while stopping.
