Our SERDI 1.1 Valve Seat and Guide Machine is the best in the world. Your heads will have perfect seats allowing for increased power and great performance. Look at this picture. This BMW head had an exhaust valve with 5 thousands of runout (.005), which is way too much for a cylinder head. It will run OK, but lacks that crisp top end horsepower. After inserting a new exhaust seat, and cutting the seat with three angles the measurement was checked as well as vacuum. The result is less than one thousands (.0005) total runout and holds a perfect vacuum of -26 In Hg. This head will develop about 15% - 20% more power than the original. This is the quality we provide to every job that comes through our door. We are happy to give you a base estimate at no charge. Give us a call 919-450-7450 Valve and Valve Seat TechThe advent of unleaded fuels brought about two problems with BMW valve trains. The 1970-1980 models had valve seats that were not strong enough (iron seats) to survive without the lubricating properties of soluble tetraethyl lead. The harder rotating valve against the seat (almost exclusively the exhaust side) wore the seat out and created a condition known as valve seat recession (VSR). BMW slowly addressed the VSR problem and in the 1981-1984 models the valve seats were made of much tougher material (stainless steel, high nickel/chrome-alloy).

However, this created a second problem called valve face plastic deformation (VFPD) wherein the valves themselves were getting beat up as the new material was a poor heat conductor. The R100 engines suffered the most as they create the most heat. In addition, EPA mandated advanced timing, lean jetting, and the pulsed air emissions system that all contributed to adding heat to the exhaust side where the exhaust valves were deformed to where they no longer sealed properly. Finally, the third generation of valve seat material came out with the 1985 and later models and the valve problems were solved (for the most part). Therefore, all Airhead engines from 1970-1984 most likely need to have a valve job wherein the exhaust seats (and valves) are replaced and the intakes are examined. The requested URL /project%20bikes/PROJECTINDEX.HTML was not found on this server. This 2000 Mercedes-Benz SL500 has 67k miles and was purchased new by the seller in Tucson, Arizona with an MSRP of over $86k.

Power comes from an unmodified 5.0 liter V8 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and the black exterior retains its original paint. The Charcoal Nappa leather interior is free of any major flaws and features heated seats and walnut trim. Dealer serviced under a factory-extended warranty until 2010, the car was later maintained by a private Mercedes service provider. This R129 is sold with a factory hardtop, its original booklets, an accident-free Carfax, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name. This 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D limo (VIN WDB1231321A116309) is said to have been brought over from Europe by its second, previous owner in 2000. Resprayed once in factory silver, the car reportedly retains its original MB-tex and velour interior, with a middle row of jump seats allowing room for up to eight including the driver. Condition looks to be of a good driver level, everything reportedly works properly, and the seller says that the car runs and drives very well too. Find it here on eBay in Lakeland, Florida with reserve not met.

This 1966 Land Rover Series IIA is a Dormobile pop-top camper that was reportedly purchased new by big game hunter Herbert S. Veltmen, who took delivery at the Land Rover factory at the age of 72. The truck was driven from the factory to Africa for a safari hunt and was subsequently used for other expeditions until its sale in 1977. A refurbishment from Rovers North of Vermont was commissioned by the second owner in 1987, and the truck was repainted in its factory color in 1993. Original camping hardware is intact, and numerous spares are included along with documentation back to new. BaT regular GarageKeptMotors is offering this Rover on behalf of the current owner with a clean Michigan title. This 1981 Lancia Beta Zagato Spider is a non-running project with a snapped timing belt. Fortunately, valves are claimed to have avoided smacking the pistons, which could limit needed repairs to a new belt. Condition looks to be above average, with straight body panels, complete trim, and very decent leather interior.

Find it here on Craigslist in San Bernardino, California for $1,700 as-is, or $4k with a new timing belt, water pump, clutch, brakes, and a rebuilt starter. This 1990 Buick Reatta (VIN 1G4EC33C8LB907510) shows just 9,910 claimed-accurate miles on its digital odometer, and despite the seller noting a few flaws, overall cosmetics (including a new top) look quite good. These cars were never built in large numbers, and convertibles are particularly scarce, as Buick only every built 2,437–just over 10% of total production including coupes. A halo model with independent suspension and disc brakes at each corner, the Reatta was Buick’s only two-seater, partially hand-built at a rate of about 5k a year. This one’s said to run and drive excellently, and with a bit of TLC could probably be one of the best left. Find it here on Craigslist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for $10k. This 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon shows 103k miles and was with the same family from new until it was recently purchased by the seller.

Ordered with optional wheels, cargo cover, and heated seats, this example is powered by a 2.3 liter inline-four paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Blue-Green Metallic is believed to be the original color and the tan cloth interior appears well preserved. The car recently received a new timing belt, water pump, and rear-main seal, and the brakes and front suspension were also serviced. It is offered at no reserve with a clean Carfax, service records, and a clean New York title. This 1968 Ford Torino GT is a clean example that is powered by its factory 428 Cobra Jet V8 paired to a Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The original owner traded in his 1961 Chevy convertible for this car on June 19, 1968 at Fred Ford Auto Sales in Blountville, Tennessee and kept the fastback for 48 years until it was purchased by the selling dealer two months ago. The car is well-preserved after being consistently garaged since new and was recently serviced by the dealer after twenty years of storage.

Work included a new gas tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, brakes, brake lines, master cylinder and booster, radiator core, water pump, and a rebuild of the 4-barrel carburetor. The car is now said to be running strong and is sold with its original window sticker, owner’s manuals, registration documents, receipts from purchase, period literature, and a clean Tennessee title. This 1959 Standard Atlas is an unusual British pick-up that’s said to have been restored 20 years ago, with a more recent refreshing somewhere in between now and then. It seems most Atlases were built as vans, but it’s certain that few have been restored to such a high standard–inside and out, cosmetics are very impressive, and the period Shell Oil livery is pretty cool too. Find it here at Great British Classics in Bramley, West Yorkshire, England for 40k GBP (~$50k USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission. This 1959 Fram King Fulda S7 is a rare (~420 built), Swedish license built version of the (slightly) better-known German Fuldamobil three-wheel bubble car.

Parked in 1980 and not moved until recently, its 191cc two-stroke Sachs twin runs, and the car is shown driving in a video found on YouTube. Fiberglass bodywork wears what looks like original, weathered paint, and inside the front bench has been nicely reupholstered in what looks like factory style materials and colors. Overall the car would seem to be ideal for restoration, though provided mechanicals are all sorted, this well-worn look suits it very well. Find it here on eBay in Roskilde, Denmark with an unmet $10k USD opening bid and additional reserve. This 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata shows 66k miles is powered by a 1.8 liter inline-four paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and factory limited-slip differential. The car has spent its entire life in North and South Carolina according to the clean Carfax, and it is unmodified apart from adjustable Koni dampers, upgraded anti-roll bars, and an aftermarket stereo head-unit. A timing belt and water pump service was performed in January 2013 at 53k miles according to the seller.

This Miata is also optioned with power windows and mirrors. It is sold with the OEM dampers/roll bars, stereo head-unit, some service records, a Haynes repair manual, a few spare maintenance items, and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name. This 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth sounds to remain completely original and unmodified, the seller further claiming under 58k miles and extensive documentation from new. These are special cars in any form, but white three-doors best capture the model’s excellent touring car heritage, and this one looks to be remarkably well-preserved inside and out. Find it here on eBay in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England with no reserve. This 1987 Subaru XT (VIN JF1AX43B0HB302947) is a mid-level GL trim example that’s said to have been mostly garaged for the past 15 years, with monthly drives to keep everything exercised. Cosmetics could use some freshening, but overall the car certainly looks better than most remaining examples, and a little bit of detailing would probably go a long way.

Though a naturally-aspirated, front-wheel drive example, its 5-speed manual gearbox is certainly preferable, and the seller reports that it’s been well maintained. Find it here on eBay in Johnstown, Pennsylvania for $3,400 OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader David L. for this submission. This 2002 BMW M Coupe is an unmodified example powered by an S54 3.2L inline-six paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Just 47 M Coupes were finished in Steel Gray Metallic over Black Nappa according to the to the M Coupe Buyer’s Guide. The car has 45k miles and was passed to the seller in 2013 by his father, who was the original owner. Delivery equipment included electric glass roof, heated seats and driver’s mirror, A/C, cruise control, uprated Harman Kardon sound system, and an M Sport multi-function steering wheel. The seller reports the car has been regularly maintained, and an oil/filter change, inspection and a smog test were completed in preparation for the sale.

This M Coupe is offered with a clean Carfax report, complete service records from new, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. This 1961 Chevrolet Impala bubbletop is claimed to have added around 500 miles since completion last year, with work including a respray in factory-correct Ermine White with a black stripe. The interior is fresh too, and the car looks fantastic sitting low over black steelies and drag radials, with power delivered by an aluminum head-topped, Lunati roller-cammed 331ci V8 backed by a Muncie 4-speed. The seller says it runs, drives, rides, and sounds great, further noting that power steering and 3.36 gears make for easy cruising. Find it here on Jalopy Journal in Akron, Ohio for $45k. This 1981 Delorean DMC-12 shows just 18k miles and has been with the same family since 1986. The car was purchased new in July of 1982 and the first owner added fewer than 14k miles. The seller acquired it from a family member in June 2014 and has added 1,300 miles since.
