For more information please select one of the courses from the buttons below.
Compulsory Basic Training (C.B.T.) Compulsory Basic Trainng at our training centre at the Pirelli Stadium in Stretton (Burton Albion's football ground). Before you can ride a motorcycle on the road you must complete a course of Compulsory Basic Training (C.B.T.). This consists of both Theory and Practical training on a closed site and culminates in a road ride, where your instructor will give further training in road skills and carry out an assessment of your ability. The courses are run with a maximum of 2 students per instructor. The C.B.T. course is designed to teach students the basics about how to ride safely on the road and is aimed at the student with little or no experience of motorcycles. So there is nothing to be worried about if you have never been near a motorcycle before. You must have both parts of your license with you on the training day During the course you will cover the following: Section A - Introduction Aims of the training course and what to wear and why we wear it.
Sections B - Practical on Site Training Motorcycle controls- Be familiar with the motorcycle. It's controls and how it works. Being able to move the bike on and off it's stands correctly. Be able to wheel the bike and to bring the bike to a controlled halt by breaking. Able to start and stop the machine. Section C - Practical On Site Riding You will be taught how to ride the machine slowly under control. Perform a "U" turn using correct observations. Perform simulated left and right turns and how to perform an Emergency Stops. These are just a few things that you will be taught on site. Section D - On The Road Training This section prepares you before you go out on the road for the first time and covers the subjects as follows: Defensive Riding (forward planning and anticipation) Section E - On The Road Riding This is your 2 hour road run. For this you will be accompanied by an instructor who will be in radio contact with you.
This section is completed in groups of 2 students to each instructor. On successfully completing this course you will be issued with a DL196 certificate (C.B.T.) which will allow you to ride on the road with 'L' Plates (up to 125cc for over 17 year olds and up to 50cc for 16 year olds). If you do not reach the required standard you will be asked to come back for a revisit (within two months) for further training at a cost of £60. Book your CBT Online with our booking system Before taking any practical test all pupils have to pass the D.S.A. Theory Test (even with a full car licence). Theory Test can be booked through our office staff. over 24 year olds For a licence to ride any motorcycle you will need to complete a Direct Access course which are taken on a motorcycle of over 600cc. You will be trained by a Direct Access qualified instructor. You will need to: Be over 24 years old Hold a valid C.B.T. Certificate Hold a valid Provisional or Full car licence, we require both the photo ID & Paper Counterpart parts of your license (or old style license & passport).
Hold a Theory Test Certificate before taking your practical Bike Test. Training days are from 9am - 4:30pm and training starts at our training centre at The Pirelli Stadium, Princess Way, Stretton. You will be riding a 600cc motorcycle from day one unless your instructor thinks you may benefit from being on a 125cc to start with. During the course helmets are provided for free (if needed) but we recommend that you supply your own. Waterproof over suits are available to hire at £5 per day. There is a £500 excess on all bike hire in case of damage, if the repair is less than the excess the cost of repair will be charged. This is a 3rd party training insurance only. over 17 year olds If you are over 17 and would like to obtain a full motorcycle licence you will need to complete a Restricted Access course which is taken on a 125cc motorcycle. You will be trained by a qualified instructor. By obtaining a full motorcycle license you can remove your L-plates and carry a pillion passenger.
Be over 17 years oldYou will be riding a 125cc motorcycle. Day 1: On the first morning you will start at our training centre, so that you can familiarise yourself with the weights, height and how your chosen bike works. This will then be followed by some slow maneuvering, when you feel confident you will be taken for your on road training the level of which will be determined by your instructor. Day 2: You will meet your instructor at our training centre to check over your chosen bike. Then you will get a briefing of your aims and objectives of the day. Normally you will be on the road all day apart from food & drink breaks. By the end of the day you should be able to cope well with most normal road traffic conditions. Day 3: Day 3 will start the same as Day 2 but you are now expected to raise the level of your riding up a notch - towards your test, for example fast driving & lanes on a dual carriage way, perfect emergency stops and calm cool & collected slow maneuvers ready for your DSA test as arranged at time of booking.
LDC cant accept responsibility for the DSA canceling your test or the weather conditions. This is that same as the above direct access course but on a 400cc (35kw). Two years after passing this A2 test you would then be entitled to take your direct access course. As of the 1st July 2011, the DSA are not allowing anyone to take part in CBT, Motorcycle training or tests without the correct clothing - this applies too all schools. L.D.C do keep some jackets, gloves boots etc at the site in order to assist trainees, however availability of sizes is not guaranteed.
