10 X 10 SPACE RENTEDMy husband takes his Harley there to have all his work done. He will not take it any where else Dave and the co workers there are very nice and they all know wh We are wanting to take our annual motorcycle trip out East this coming year, starting with Gettysburg and then on down the East Coast, hitting Myrtle Beach, Charleston, then up through the Smoky Mountains back home. My question, is Gettysburg motorcycle friendly? Meaning is, are most roads getting to historic stuff paved? Can we ride through the Battlefield? I know this place is very popular and hollowed ground and not sure if we would be welcome on a motorcycle. We do ride a Harley and not that we are crazy kids but some people may find them loud!!! Having never been out that way and we are serious history buff's we would just like to combine two of our favorite things: riding and history!! 2 destinations mentioned in this post there's a bike week here every year, and thousands of bikes all over town at that time.
Yes you're allowed on the battlefield roads. Be respectful on the battlefield and in town. There are some who deliberately rev the motors for no good reason, which leads to the unwelcome feelings they'll get from the townspeople. Yes I know, some people like to hear the sound of their pipes cracklin..... We aren't that type.. Was just mainly concerned with the roads being paved or mostly gravel Yes Gettysburg is motorcycle friendly. It's a great place to ride your bike. Plenty of biker friendly restaurants, bars, shops and Battlefield Harley. There is so much to see and do around this area, we want to add Blue Ridge Parkway, and Myrtle Beach, then on down to Charleston SC to this trip before we head back home..........that's a long ride on a motorcycle!! But my list just keeps growing!! You bet it's motorcycle friendly. I did a solo ride up on my bike from southern Georgia this past July, with the sole purpose of cruising the battlefield. All of the roads on the battlefield are paved and in great shape.
In fact, there is actually a large bike week in Gettysburg each July (it was the week after I was there). Take your bike and have a blast feeling the wind in your hair as you cruise the battlefield at your own pace.Gettysburg has a HD dealership on the northeast side of town on Hwy 30 (Battlefield HD)...so you won't be out of place at all. Our plans have changed a little.....start at Gettysburg and then Philadelphia, Boston, and up to Acadia National Park.....that will be one GREAT motorcycle trip if I can get it all planned out!! Thinking late August, early September My trip plans just keep getting bigger!! As I stated above, this has turned into a history tour now, no beaches just lots of old cities and history!! My question.... we now know that we can't go until late September, leaving Missouri on the 18th(husbands work) so is this a bad time to come, are things closing up because its after Labor Day?? One destination mentioned in this postGettysburg is very motorcycle friendly and you definitely want to ride the battlefields.
