Mayor of Roselle Swears In Student Mayor of JA BizTown (Left to right): Stephanie Karpowicz, Director of Capstone Programs, Junior Achievement of New Jersey; Tyell, JA BizTown Student Mayor; Mayor Christine Dansereau, Roselle; and Maryellen Moffitt, Gifted & Talented Coordinator, Roselle Board of Education
January 31, 2017,  Edison, NJ - On the morning of Friday, January 27, 2017 during the first of two BizTown town hall meetings, Roselle Mayor Christine Dansereau swore in the Mayor of JA BizTown®, Tyell, a sixth grader from Leonard V. Moore Middle School, Roselle, NJ.  Tyell was elected by his educators prior to their field trip to the JA BizTown micro economy located in the JA Education Center, Edison, NJ. As JA BizTown Mayor Tyell was preparing to address his classmates, volunteers and teachers, Mayor Dansereau asked him if he was nervous.  Tyell said yes, and the Roselle Mayor had this advice, “The best way to feel less nervous is to picture everyone you look at as a friend.  You don’t feel so nervous when talking to your friends!” Tyell took her advice and addressed his fellow JA BizTown citizens with confidence during the Opening Town Meeting which included volunteer role models from Tristate Capital Bank and WithumSmith+Brown. Tyell was one of 80 students from Leonard V. Moore Middle School and one of 6,000 students who will experience JA BizTown this school year.
Before all students take their field trip to BizTown, they applied and interviewed for ‘real-world’ jobs such as CEOs and CFOs which are in every storefront, photographers, DJs, Chick-fil-A store managers, Horizon Foundation Wellness technicians, MetLife financial service managers, Phillips 66 engineers, Quest Diagnostics medical technologists, NJ Credit Union or Investors Bank tellers, UPS workers, Walmart inventory managers, and more. Signed Federal Continuity Directive 1 The FEMA Administrator signed the revised Federal Continuity Directive (FCD) 1 on January 17, 2017.  Per Presidential Policy 40, “the Secretary of Homeland Security shall, through the Administrator of FEMA, develop and promulgate Federal Continuity Directives to establish continuity program and planning requirements for executive departments and agencies.”  The updated FCD captures lessons learned over the past several years, clarifies ambiguous language and tasks, and refines and updates continuity requirements.
