Hwy 16 from Fredericksburg to Kerrville is very scenic and then 173 from Kerrville to Bandera is very beautiful, where you can stop at the Cabaret for a beer. There are so many good rides in this area that you could spend weeks going all over the place. You must go to Luckenbach of course! You go through it if you take the back roads from 281 at Blanco, heading west toward Fredericksburg.

It's a pretty drive, 2 lane winding roads after Blanco, and plenty of fellow bikers to enjoy it with! I agree too, the drive to Bandera is one of the prettiest around here. Enchanted Rock is a great hike, as is Lost Maples State Park, west of Bandera. I can't wait to get there. Check out the Hog Stop Inn, about 9 miles east of Fredricksburg. We found it via the internet when looking for a vacation stop last year and were very impressed. They have a few cabins of various sizes set off of the highway in a wooded area, an ice house, and a gift shop/breakfast cafe on location. It is a biker based business with very friendly owners on site. There are many beautiful rides around the Hill Country from their location. Have a safe journey.
