Michael McGrady, 52, of Petaluma was driving a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle behind a Toyota RAV4 north on the highway around 10:50 a.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said. The driver of the Toyota was able to stop when traffic suddenly slowed south of E. Washington Street, and McGrady struck the left rear of the Toyota, Sloat said.

The collision forced the Toyota to the right shoulder where it was hit by the left wheels of a tanker behind it that had swerved to avoid a collision, Sloat said. McGrady was ejected from the motorcycle and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Sloat said. The mother of the Sonoma man driving the Toyota complained of pain and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
