Had an idea that it maybe a nice hour to cycle along the corniche and back for the hour. Anyone out there done this? or any local can advise whether this is practical/likely to be worth it. Our other ideas for the day include getting some good scenic shots of Doha, the museum, late afternoon(?) dhow half hour sail, and evening visit to the souk (+restaurant).

I have never heard of any expats hiring bikes so not sure if they are even available. Much would also depend on when you plan to visit. Temperatures have already been above 30c recently, it doesnt get much cooler of an evening. Taxis are quite cheap so usually this is the preferred option for getting about. The Museum of Islamic Art (a must see) is located on the Corniche and also quite close the the Souq Waqif and the dhow sailing point is also nearby. 2 attractions mentioned in this post Ranked of 100 things to do in Doha I was considering them as an option to ride along the Corniche- to see the buildings etc further away. THe walk along the corniche is lovely. However, travel to doha from end of April to end of October and you really will not last the walk on the corniche day or night. Its unbearable temps of around 110 to 120 degrees. I have known people walk a short way and then collapse. I agree with most of the comments here. As far as I know it is prohibited to ride bicycles in Corniche. Only possible path is to ride in the road. There is a dedicated bicycle track near Sheraton Hotel end, but it is very short one. That being said, every day you could see few bicycles around corniche.
