And likewise, y...ou will hit deep potholes blind as well. the front comes up having absorbed the extreme lip of the “crater” and the back bounces through…and you hold your breath thinking you have two flat tyres and two bent wheels but they just purr on as if the two-foot deep pothole hit at 100km was nothing more than a minor bump! Thirdly, the luggage system is awesome. The bikes have been dropped a few times in low-speed situations and they show no sign of twisting or broken fittings.

"A tricky time was when we were in the Western Sahara Desert and had to ride 450kms across nothing. The road was good but we were worried about fuel stops. "We topped up our spare bottles and Gareth’s fuel.
We got through to about 300km and came across the only fuel stop of the desert crossing. We can make it all the way. Or not, there had been no diesel or petrol d...elivery for three days. "Having no option, we filled up the bikes with what we had spare, dropped the speed down to 55mph and set off. An hour and a half later both warning fuel warning lights came on and we will still had about 100km to the next town. Time ticked by, the sun was coming down and a night in the desert beckoned. But…we stumbled across a local village and asked if anyone had petrol. 10 litres was found but for the local equivalent of £30…a fortune! However, it saved the day and we got into the town and filled up to make sure our engines would have no problem with the gold-plated 'village fuel'! Some are signposted and some are not, so I gained air a few times before I got wise to their general positioning on the run up to villages.
