He’s been made famous from his television show American Pickers that is on The History Chanel but he’s been picking antiques of all kinds for years. His picking interested started at a young age and as we understand it has never died down. Beyond his love of picking Mike is also a huge motorcycle nut and is widely known for his motorcycle collection of Indians and various British bikes.  The same can be said of his early bicycle collection and even of his love of Volkswagen’s.
For a long time Mike has been driving a Single Cab VW Bus but recently picked up a VW Panel Van and a 63 split-window Bug.  Each one of these original VW’s are treasures by themselves. Outside of Mike’s television show he has his Le Claire Iowa store and also a Nashville store which he recently opened.  He not married but he’s been with his girlfriend for over 10 years and they recently had a little girl. "I've known Mike Wolfe for over 20 years," said Dambrauskas, 68, from inside of his warehouses loaded from floor to roof with car parts, bodies of Porsche roadsters, chasses from Corvettes, motorcycle frames — even the side of an airplane and a 40-foot Navy utility boat that was brought to the area from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii."
The difference between Mike Wolfe and myself is that when he walks into a building, he's looking for a certain item. When I walk into a building, I ask how much they want for all of it," he said. As a result, Dambrauskas, who says he has been collecting and "treasure hunting" since he was an 18-year-old kid in Miller, has amassed a vast inventory of mostly car and motorcycle parts, but also some unique items, including beams from a Studebaker factory built in 1861 to build wagons for the Civil War.Dambrauskas spent a lifetime collecting such objects of desire, but he also worked with his older brothers and father building homes and buildings in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.Even though he may be a native with deep roots in Northwest Indiana, he still has a bit of wanderlust that keeps his hobby, or rather his lifestyle, flourishing. "I've traveled all over the United States and when I look back and realize all of the places I've been and all of the things I've chased down, along almost every highway in the country, well, it's overwhelming," he said.
But it's that love of the chase that keeps Dambrauskas going, although he admits that he is slowing down on his collecting and starting to sell off more of his wares, including an Indian Motorcycle sign from 1917, a AAA sign from 1924, gas tanks for JDH motorcycles, and motorcycle tires from 1915 to Wolfe for the show. When Wolfe first entered the warehouses, Dambrauskas said he "didn't say much. The variety of stuff was kind of overwhelming."He says Wolfe nicknamed him "Not-For-Sale Dennis" because they weren't able to settle on a price for an item that caught Wolfe's eye — the very first motorcycle Dambrauskas ever purchased at an auction in the Southwest."He wanted to buy a 1913 Harley Davidson motorcycle and I wanted $30,000 for it. He was offering $25,000 and we were not in agreement," he said.Even though the "American Pickers" team brought seven trucks to collect items, and 15 staff members, twice the normal amount, to see Dambrauskas' collections, they left with only a few items and he says he's happy with that."
