The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye® boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders.
Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West. Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order. In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years. I purchased the Frye Harness 8R boot. The color I selected was the Charcoal Old Town. This boot wears well with a suit. I sported my boots with my suite to an event and received several compliments. I also wear my boots to complement my jeans. If you are concerned with the size, the boots are true to size. However, you should wear thin cotton socks. I wear a size 10 shoe. I purchased a size 10 1/2 boot. The boot is not a slip on. You need to use the side loops to pull your foot through. Once on, you will walk with style in a well-crafted boot by Frye. I use my boot while riding my motorcycle. I plan to get another pair to dedicate as my fashion pair. My Frye boots are comfortable and sporty. Felt true to size Felt true to width These are awesome boots! I read reviews and decided to order a full size smaller then what I normally wear and yep, that was big mistake.
For me these boots were a true size fit; so if you wear a 10, order a 10. I really love the aging these boots obtain as you wear them. In short, these are amazing boots. I stumbled upon Zappos and was glad I did. Excellent customer service and fair prices. I love these boots; they look great, like I've owned them for years. In a short time I have received many compliments and people want to know where they can get them. I ordered these boots a half size down from my normal size and was happy with the fit. I did have a problem with one of the boots, but Zappos took care of the problem (a Frye issue, not theirs), sent another pair to me, not waiting for the original boots to be returned and not charging my credit card for the second pair. My girlfriend liked the boots so much, I bought a pair of the belted harness boots for her. Because of the customer service, where everyone is polite, helpful and doesn't sound like a robot, I have ordered a couple pair of jeans and plan on ordering more products from them.
They say LL Bean is known for their service? Nothing against them, but Zappos has raised the bar! First off, I have never been a boot guy, but I saw these in a department store last year and fell in love with them. I'm not exactly rich, so I had to wait patiently for an occasion that would justify the price tag. Thankfully that day came and I ordered a size 10.5 from another vendor since Zappos didn't have that size. I wear 10.5 sneakers, but when the boots arrived, they definitely felt too big, so I returned them and went with the size 10 pair from Zappos. Having worn them for a few weeks now, I realize that I should have gone down another half size to the 9.5s. As I broke them in, they loosened up a little. I still love the pair I have and am comfortable enough with a half size too big, but would suggest going a full size down from your sneaker size. Having worn them for a while now, I'd recommend them to anyone without hesitation. They are surprisingly comfortable given their rugged look and as far as style, I've gotten more compliments than I can remember.
