Padre Island can be a great place to get out on an ATV, but the rules on the south Texas island are quite strict. There is plenty of open space, dunes and trails to take advantage of. But be aware that ATVs are prohibited on state and federally owned beaches and may not be driven on the island's roads. From the Mansfield Channel until the very southern tip of the island, where the main tourist center for South Padre is located, the beaches are untamed. You may bring your own ATV to the course or rent from the company. The company accepts only cash at the ATV course location. State of Texas ATV Rules The state of Texas mandates that an ATV may not be operated on public property unless the driver has been certified by the state or another state and the ATV is properly registered.
